Rivian, the trailblazing electric vehicle manufacturer renowned for its rugged offerings, has just rolled out five brand-new DC fast charging hubs along the picturesque Blue Ridge Parkway.

Designed for adventurers who crave off-the-beaten-path experiences, Rivian vehicles boast impressive features, including three feet of wading depth and optional camping gear. But the missing link for these expeditions was reliable charging in remote areas.

To tackle the issue of range anxiety in the wilderness, Rivian has expanded its charging infrastructure with the Adventure and Waypoint network. The latest addition is strategically positioned along the Blue Ridge Parkway, culminating near the famed Great Smoky Mountains – the most frequented national park in the United States.

Winding through 469 miles of North Carolina and Virginia, the Blue Ridge Parkway is an iconic route in the American southeast. While it connects to breathtaking sites, the region has been lacking in convenient DC fast charging options.

Rivian’s investment in this new charging network includes five stations, each equipped with six DC fast chargers. In addition, the Roanoke and Meadows of Dan stations feature three and two AC chargers, respectively – perfect for drivers planning longer stays.

Here’s the breakdown of charging stations:

  • Front Royal, VA: 6 DC fast chargers
  • Waynesboro, VA: 6 DC fast chargers
  • Roanoke, VA: 6 DC fast chargers, 3 AC chargers
  • Meadows of Dan, VA: 6 DC fast chargers, 2 AC chargers
  • Blowing Rock, NC: 6 DC fast chargers

Crucially, Rivian emphasizes that all Blue Ridge DC fast chargers are designed for easy pull-through trailer access. Moreover, these stations can provide Rivian vehicles with an impressive 140 miles of range in just a 20-minute charge – a game-changer for tourists exploring the scenic route.

This news follows Rivian’s recent launch of its longest-range offering, the R1T Dual-Motor Max Pack. With a remarkable 410 miles of range per EPA standards (when equipped with the stock 21-inch Road tires), the R1T can cover substantial distances. However, even this powerhouse might need a pit stop at one of Rivian’s new chargers along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Get ready for an electrifying adventure!
